§ Mr. Michael ForsythIn January 1992 the chief scientist office of the Scottish Office Home and Health Department approved funding amounting to £27,000 for a one-year study by Dr. Mary Fulton of the University of Edinburgh to determine the impact of treating water to reduce its lead content on the blood lead levels of those children who participated in her earlier research into the influence of blood lead on the ability and attainment of children in Edinburgh.
The health implications of lead are fully recognised by the Government and measures have been taken to reduce lead exposure through petrol, water, industrial emissions and a range of other sources.
