HC Deb 24 February 1992 vol 204 c363W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he intends to review the number of routine checks by Customs officials at Scottish airports; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

Routine checks by Customs officers are becoming less of a feature of customs work at all ports and airports as a result of that department's strategy of more flexible deployment of staff based on intelligence and assessment of risk and concentrating on drugs, obscene material, instruments of terrorism and other high priority smuggling targets.

The strategy is kept under constant review.
