HC Deb 21 February 1992 vol 204 cc344-5W
Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the criteria which his Department uses when deciding whether a controlled pedestrian crossing is justified.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The criteria for establishing pedestrian crossings are contained in "Technical Memorandum SH 7/87", published by the Scottish Office in February 1987. A copy of this memorandum has been placed in the Library.

Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the number and locations of the controlled pedestrian crossings which his Department has approved in(a) Scotland, (b) Fife and (c) north-east Fife in the last 10 years for which information is available.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The number of pelican crossings currently on trunk roads which have been authorised by the Secretary of State are given in the table. Some of these crossings will have been authorised longer ago than 10 years. Other crossings, originally authorised by the Secretary of State on trunk roads, are not included in the table because the roads concerned are no longer classified as trunk roads.
