HC Deb 21 February 1992 vol 204 cc353-4W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will order a public inquiry into the proposals of Scottish Nuclear to erect storage facilities for waste nuclear fuel at Torness and Hunterston.

Mr. Allan Stewart

[holding answer 17 February 1992]: Scottish Nuclear Ltd. would require the consent of the Secretary of State in terms of the Electricity Act 1989 to build a dry store for spent advanced gas-cooled reactor fuel. No such application for consent has yet been made to the Secretary of State. The 1989 Act provides for a public inquiry to be held to consider unresolved objections to any application made in terms of section 36 of that Act.
