§ Mr. Michael Forsyth[holding answer 13 February 1992]: As at 1 January 1986, the term "general manager" was applied only to the most senior officer in each health board. Since that date it has been extended to other management posts. The term "senior manager" has been progressively introduced into the NHS in Scotland from 22 December 1987 when new arrangements for the remuneration and conditions of service of persons employed in a range of senior management posts came into operation.
