§ Mr. HarrisTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what contribution Her Majesty's Government will make to the United Nations fund for population activities in 1992.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe will contribute £9 million to the United Nations fund for population activities in 1992. This is a 20 per cent. increase on our 1991 contribution of £7.5 million, which in turn represented an increase of 25 per cent. over the 1990 contribution of £6 million. Britain will, therefore, have increased its core support to UNFPA by 50 per cent. over the last two years.
Britain's commitment to population as a development priority is very clear, and we aim to further increase the resources available for population assistance under the United Kingdom aid programme. UNFPA will continue to be a major recipient of this assistance.
