asked Her Majesty's Government:

What would be the estimated additional cost, at 1992–93 values, of applying the same applicable amount in the case of all persons aged 18–24 inclusive as in the case of persons aged 25–59 inclusive, within:

  1. (a) the proposed council tax benefits scheme only; and
  2. (b) the housing benefit scheme only.

The estimated costs at 1992–93 benefit levels, using current exemplifications of council tax levels, would be as follows:

  1. (a) £5 million.
  2. (b) £25 million.
