HC Deb 13 February 1992 vol 203 c602W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans he has to allow a consumer to consent to, or be aware of, those uses and disclosures of personal information not obvious at the time the consumer provides the information; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Leigh

Existing legislation provides for individuals in certain circumstances to be aware that information which they disclose about themselves may be used for marketing and other purposes and give them the opportunity to object. I have no plans to introduce any further controls in this area.
