HC Deb 13 February 1992 vol 203 c586W
Sir David Price

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give consideration to deferring his determination of the proposed new parliamentary constituencies for Hampshire until such time as the Local Government Commission has brought forward its recommendations for the future structure of local government in Hampshire.

Mrs. Rumbold

No. A general review of all parliamentary constituencies in England is currently being undertaken by the Boundary Commission, which is under a statutory duty to make a report to my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary within the time scale laid down in the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986. As part of that review process, the commission publishes provisional recommendations—in the case of parliamentary constituencies in Hampshire, these were published on 6 February—and then considers any resulting representations, together with the outcome of any local inquiry which it may hold, when making its final report. My right hon. Friend will consider that report when it is submitted.
