HL Deb 13 February 1992 vol 535 c38WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many defence personnel (civilian and military) are involved in servicing and defending the Falkland Islands; and how much it costs to maintain a presence on the islands, including transport costs to and from the United Kingdom.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (The Earl of Arran)

We maintain forces at the level necessary to meet our commitment to the defence of the Falkland Islands. Details of these force levels are classified. The cost of maintaining the presence in 1990–91, including transport costs, was £65.7 million.
