HC Deb 13 February 1992 vol 203 c585W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will discuss with chief constables the need for DNA samples to be taken from all those convicted of violent crimes; if he will maintain a national register of such DNA information; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

There are practical, legal and ethical issues in the collection of samples for DNA profiling and in the development of a national DNA database. My right hon. Friend has asked the Royal Commission on criminal justice to consider this subject and we await its recommendations.
