HC Deb 13 February 1992 vol 203 c597W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated annual cost of exempting all registered charities from liability for value added tax.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

Information about the amount of value added tax borne by charities is not collated centrally but it is estimated that charities pay between £180 million and £250 million in value added tax each year.
