§ Mr. Beaumont-Dark
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received from the motor industry about the taxing of cars.

§ Mr. Maude
My right hon. Friend has received a number of representations from a wide crosssection of the motor industry. Both I and my right hon. Friend have also met a number of delegations from the industry.

§ Mr. Roger King
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total tax take in the last year for which figures are available of special car tax and VAT levied on the sale of a new car.

§ Mr. Maples
In 1990–91 car tax raised £1.5 billion, and an estimated £2.7 billion was raised from VAT levied on new cars.
