Mr. Carr

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish a list of secondary schools that have applied for borrowing approval for capital schemes; and, in each case, whether approval was given.

Mr. Fallon

Under the terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, only local authorities are allowed to bid for borrowing approval for capital schemes.

Details of all secondary schools included within LEAs' capital bids and our decisions in each case could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
