HC Deb 10 February 1992 vol 203 c392W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will institute an inquiry into the welfare of children at the Ko Hsuan school in Chawleigh, north Devon.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

I understand that a joint social services and police investigation took place on 3 February and that the findings of the investigation are now being studied. We do not anticipate the need for a Government inquiry at this time. We will, however, keep the situation under review.

Under the terms of the Children Act 1989 the proprietors of the school have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children accommodated in the school.
