Mr. Yeo

Information collected by the Housing Corporation shows that in March 1991, 16,400 housing association properties in England were empty (2.7 per cent. of the total stock).

The breakdown by duration of vacancy is as follows:

Less than six months 6.7 3.5 10.2
Six months—one year 0.4 1.8 2.2
Over one year 0.2 3.8 4.0
Total 7.3 9.1 16.4
1 Many of these are dwellings which have been purchased and require rehabilitation before they are suitable for occupation.
