To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how much public expenditure has been incurred on Leigh Barton; and for how many years it has been in his ownership;

(2) how many years Leigh Barton, near Churstow has been closed to the public; and when it is planned to be reopened.

Leigh Barton was purchased from Devon county council by the Secretary of State for the Environment in April 1974, at a cost of £4,850, and has been in English Heritage's guardianship since 1984. To date, the total estimated costs of maintenance and repair at the property amount to about £300,000.
