HL Deb 06 February 1992 vol 535 cc20-1WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To which countries they will not sell weapons and other military equipment or military services of any kind and to which they will not advance credit for such sales.

The Earl of Caithness

The Government adhere to UN arms embargoes on Iraq, Yugoslavia, South Africa and Somalia and EC Arms Embargoes on China, Burma, Syria and Libya. Restrictions on defence exports to other countries are applied under international obligations. All defence-related export licence applications are carefully scrutinised on a case-by-case basis. Where an export licence has been approved, Government support through the Export Credit Guarantee Department would only be available for credit to any country where the commercial risks are considered acceptable.
