HL Deb 05 February 1992 vol 535 c11WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether United States nuclear warheads are ever carried on British roads; and if so whether the United States authorities are required "not to undertake nuclear weapons convoys when adverse weather conditions are forecast along the route" and to ensure that "local police forces are always informed in advance when convoys will enter their area of responsibility", as is the case when British nuclear weapons are carried on public roads in the United Kingdom as indicated by Mr. Archie Hamilton (Official Report, Commons, 17/1/92, col. WA 697).

The Earl of Arran

It is the policy of the United States Government, as it is of Her Majesty's Government, neither to confirm nor to deny the presence of nuclear weapons. However, I can assure the noble Lord that no nuclear weapons are moved by road in the United Kingdom without the sensible precautions to which he refers being adhered to.
