§ Mr. MellorInformation on local authority gross capital spending in the period 1986–87 to 1991–92 in both cash and real terms is given in the table. Corresponding information is not available for 1992–93, but the Government's illustrative projection is that, if local authorities were to spend from usable capital receipts and revenue contributions at a rate broadly similar to the current year, total gross capital spending would be of the order of £8½ billion.
