§ Mr. John MarshallTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what part Her Majesty's Government are playing in the international fora for the promotion of human rights.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydHer Majesty's Government has consistently played a full and active role in international human rights fora. The United Kingdom was re-elected to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights this year. I paid a visit to the Commission in Geneva on 29 and 30 January. In my speech I reaffirmed the British Government's commitment to the universal promotion of human rights and announced a £25,000 contribution to the United Nations voluntary fund on torture.
