HL Deb 05 February 1992 vol 535 c12WA
Baroness Ewart-Biggs

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have recently met representatives from opposition groups within Fiji, and whether they would provide monitors for any forthcoming elections in Fiji if asked to do so by these groups.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (The Earl of Caithness)

In the normal course of our diplomatic contacts we continue to meet people of a wide variety of opinions in Fiji. We do not propose to provide monitors for the forthcoming elections. The British Embassy in Suva will be reporting on the elections in the normal way.
