HC Deb 03 February 1992 vol 203 c27W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many redundancies in factories in Ballynahinch and Killyleagh have been reported in the last year; and what plans he has to introduce enterprise zones into the constituency of South Down.

Mr. Needham

The Department of Economic Development receives notification of redundancies involving 10 or more employees at any specific establishment. Since 1 January 1991, a total of 226 redundancies have been reported at factories located in Ballynahinch and Killyleagh.

In association with the International Fund for Ireland the Government are embarking on a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing social and economic conditions in South Down. Enterprise zones which are targeted on areas of large scale industrial dereliction do not form part of this regeneration strategy.
