To ask the Minister for the Arts what discussions he has had over measures to protect the United Kingdom's artistic heritage from export; and if he will make a statement.

Following the reviewing committee's recent report to me, I have held discussions with the reviewing committee and with my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Hall Green (Mr. Hargreaves), with the chairman of the National Art Collections Fund and with representatives of the Historic Houses Association. I have asked for representations on this important question to reach me by the end of March.
