HC Deb 17 December 1992 vol 216 cc502-3W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what resources have been received by urban programme authorities in(a) the first round and (b) the second round of city challenge.

Mr. Robin Squire

Sums of £82.5 million and £150 million will be available for the first round and second round city challenge winners respectively each year for five years.

Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he intends to consider the action plans of each of the city challenge departments.

Mr. Robin Squire

Round II city challenge partnerships are required to submit their action plans to the Department by 31 December. The plans will be assessed against published guidance and decisions will be announced in February.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment his Department has made of the loss of training places which will result from the reduction in the urban programme.

Mr. Robin Squire

The urban programme will support an estimated 74,097 training places in 1992–93. Because of the increase in total resources available for the urban programme and city challenge, from £319 million in 1992–93 to £408 million in 1993–94, I would expect to see a corresponding rise in the number of training places.Source (training places): UP Submissions 1992–93.
