HC Deb 17 December 1992 vol 216 c443W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action his Department now intends to take following the report of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration on the complaint made to him by the hon. Member for Tooting on behalf of Mrs. Cynthia Hazig of Tooting, so that similar incidents do not in future take place; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

This case arose because of defective laminate in a passport issued in 1985. This type of passport is no longer issued and the new style, machine-readable passport has to meet very strict quality controls. New instructions have been issued to immigration officers on the examination of suspect travel documents.
