§ Mr. Win GriffithsTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment in what circumstances lecturers in further education colleges are barred from standing in local elections for councils with responsibility for education.
§ Mr. Robin Squire[holding answer 14 December 1992]: Lecturers in further education colleges are currently barred only from standing for election to the local education authorities of which they are employees. When further education colleges transfer to the new further education sector on 1 April 1993, lecturers at the colleges 512W will become employees of the corporations established to conduct the colleges. In these circumstances such lecturers will be entitled to stand for election to any council.
