HC Deb 17 December 1992 vol 216 c450W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when instructions were sent to the post in Islamabad to issue entry clearance to Mr. Syed Farhat Abbas—Ref. TH/16422/90 and—B 020653—to join his wife in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Charles Wardle

I very much regret that the entry clearance officer was not immediately informed that the presenting officer's application for leave to appeal to the immigration appeal tribunal against the adjudicator's decision to allow Mr. Abbas' appeal has been withdrawn on 27 October. Instructions to issue an entry clearance were sent by telex to the British high commission in Islamabad on 16 December.

Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when instructions were sent to the post in Islamabad to issue entry clearance to Mr. Mohd Asif Gill—Ref. Imm/v 94835 and Imm (APP 320)—to join his wife in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The adjudicator's determination allowing Mr. Gill's appeal was delivered on 2 November and after consideration in the Home Office was sent to the British high commission in Islamabad on 1 December, with a request that the entry clearance officer should act in accordance with the spirit of the determination.
