§ Mr. Mike O'BrienTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of Warwickshire(a) giving the number of officers in his force who have received training in dealing with domestic violence and (b) listing the domestic violence units in the area covered by his force and the expenditure involved in maintaining such units.
§ Mr. Charles WardleAll officers receive general training in dealing with incidents of domestic violence, by which the force means all violence which occurs within the family, including child abuse. Two hundred and ten officers have undergone more specialised training. The force currently has one dedicated family protection unit which was established in July this year. The unit is staffed by an inspector, two sergeants and 14 constables. The cost of maintaining the unit includes approximately £464,000 a year for staff salaries, plus additional costs for training and travelling.
