HC Deb 17 December 1992 vol 216 c444W
Mr. Mike O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many offenders involved in child sex abuse incidents are currently being held in bail hostels or other similar institutions whether awaiting trial or on probation or parole, in the Coventry and northern Warwickshire area.

Mr. Jack

There are currently two probation/bail hostels in Coventry and Nuneaton. On 15 December 1992 three of the residents out of 29 were defendants or offenders in child sex abuse cases.

Mr. Mike O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the amount of public funding paid to private institutions for the treatment of offenders involved in child sex abuse.

Mr. Jack

Local authorities, health authorities and probation committees may fund treatment of individual offenders at their discretion, but no funding for this purpose came directly from central Government.
