To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to amend the Street Works (Sharing of Costs of Works) Regulations 1992.

Mr. Freeman

I have received representations from the National Joint Utilities Group that the regulations are unfair to the utilities in their treatment of major transport works, particularly with regard to tramways. It may be that the regulations are not satisfactory as they stand. I am arranging for the Department to undertake public consultations as soon as possible, as a basis for a further decision.
