§ Mr. Hendry
To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will set out the respective responsibilities of school governors and head teachers.

§ Mr. Forth
The roles of school governors and headteachers are set out in different pieces of legislation, and brought together in detail in the articles of government of individual schools. In general terms, the conduct of the school is under the direction of the governing body while the head teacher has responsibility for the internal organisation and management of the school.
