HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 c310W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of women domiciled in Wales treated for(a) breast cancer a nd (b) cervical cancer who have suffered serious long-term side effects as a consequence of radiotherapy treatment undergone; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

This information is not held centrally.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will meet members of the Radiotherapy Action Group Exposure to discuss the consequences to women of long-term side effects of radiotherapy treatment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

My right hon. Friend has no plans to meet this group. The treatment of cancers by radiotherapy is governed by clinical practice within a legislative framework. All patients discuss the implications of radiotherapy with the responsible consultant before the course of treatment begins.
