§ Mr. BowisTo ask the Secretary of State for Education when he will publish proposals for a new national curriculum technology order; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ForthMy right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Education and for Wales are publishing tomorrow proposals for a revised technology curriculum tomorrow as the basis for extensive consultation. These are based on the recommendations for attainment targets and programmes of study incorporated in the accompanying report of the review group, led by Her Majesty's inspectorate.
As required by the Education Reform Act 1988, the Secretary of State will ask the National Curriculum Council to conduct the consultation exercise in England. All schools, education authorities, professional organisations and others will have until 31 March 1993 to submit their views and make representations to the NCC. A parallel consultation will take place in Wales. Subject to advice from the NCC and the Curriculum Council for Wales, my right hon. Friends then intend to publish a draft Order for further consultation later in 1993.
Copies of the report, the proposals and the Secretary of State's letter to the chairman of the National Curriculum Council will be placed in the Library of the House.
