HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 c312W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what additional resources have been made available by his Department to assist those affected by the recent flooding in Wales to restore their homes.

Mr. David Hunt

It is the responsibility of householders to ensure that they have adequate insurance for their homes and contents. I have already met the chief executive of the Association of British Insurers who has assured me that all claims submitted to members of the association will be dealt with expeditiously.

In addition, any homes so badly damaged that they now fail to meet the statutory fitness standard may qualify for mandatory home renovation grants. Discretionary assistance may also be available for certain works over and above that standard.
