HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 c251W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of enterprise allowances(a) started, (b) completed, (c) carried through to start-up and (d) surviving more than 12 months after start-up in England and Wales in 1990–91 and 1991–92; and what is the equivalent information for the northern region and the Tyneside training and enterprise council.

Mr. McLoughlin

The number of enterprise allowances —renamed business start-up allowances from 1991–92—started is set out in the table. The number of those carried through to start-up is not an applicable measure, as allowances are awarded on start-up. The number of completions and those surviving more than 12 months is not available.

Enterprise/business start-up allowances awarded
1990–91 1991–92
England and Wales 54,400 45,500
Northern region 3,600 2,800
