HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 cc328-9W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when Miss Ayesha Weeks of 11 Champernowne, Modbury, Ivybridge, South Devon, will know the result of her application for disability living allowance.

Mr. Scott

The administration of disability living allowance is a matter for Mr. Michael Bichard, the chief executive of the Benefits Agency. He will write to my hon. Friend and a copy will be placed in the Library.

Letter from Michael Bichard to Mr. Anthony Steen, dated 15 December 1992: As Chief Executive of the Benefits Agency, it is my responsibility to answer questions about relevant operational matters. I am therefore replying to the points raised in your recent Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Social Security asking when Miss Ayesha Weeks will know the result of her application for Disability Living Allowance (DLA). A decision has been made on Miss Weeks' latest claim for DLA. I have replied separately, and in greater detail, about the case. I hope you find this reply helpful. A copy will appear in the Official Report. A copy is also being placed in the Library.

Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when he expects to start paying disability living allowance and personal carer's allowance to Mrs. Patricia Allen awarded to her from 8 August and 6 April, respectively; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

The administration of disability living allowance is a matter for Mr. Michael Bichard, the chief executive of the Benefits Agency. He will write shortly to the hon. Member and a copy will be placed in the Library.

Letter from Michael Bichard to Mr. Bob Cryer, dated 15 December 1992: As Chief Executive of the Benefits Agency, it is my responsibility to answer questions about relevant operational matters. I am therefore replying to the points raised in your recent Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Social Security asking when Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and personal carer's allowance will be paid to Mrs. Patricia Allen. I can confirm that action has now been completed on Mrs. Allen's case. I have replied to you separately, and in greater detail, about the case. Clearly Mrs. Allen's claim has not been handled with the efficiency I would expect and I offer my sincere apologies to her for the inconvenience this must have caused. My letter of 19 October 1992 to all MPs explained the problems the Agency has faced since the successful launch of DLA and the positive steps taken to improve the situation. I hope you find this reply helpful. A copy will appear in the Official Report. A copy will also be placed in the Library.
