HC Deb 11 December 1992 vol 215 cc803-4W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many paediatric neurologists there are in the West Midlands regional health authority; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

There is one paediatric neurologist in the West Midlands regional health authority, according to the Department of Health's medical and dental census at 30 September 1991.

There is currently a rapid expansion in the number of consultants specialising in paediatrics, of which paediatric neurology is a small sub-specialty. Appointment of medical staff is a matter for local employing authorities.
