§ Mr. MillerTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received from members of the Cheshire Regiment serving in Bosnia, whose families are in Germany, regarding the reduction of allowances; and what action he intends to take.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonService personnel based in Germany are paid an allowance in view of the high cost of living there. A similar allowance is not necessary in Bosnia, where food and accommodation charges are waived, but members of the Cheshire Regiment retain a significant element (70 per cent. for married personnel, 40 per cent. for single personnel) of the German allowance in recognition of their continuing financial commitments in Germany.
