A senior employment medical adviser participated in the working party and consulted widely throughout EMAS during preparation of the draft approved code of practice on the control of respiratory sensitisers. Dr. J. T. Carter, chairman of the Health and Safety Commission's Advisory Committee on Toxic Substances at that time, was also head of EMAS and head of HSE's medical services, thus ensuring close consultation both at senior management level within HSE and throughout the field operations of EMAS.
