§ Sir John HannamTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has received the annual report of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreemanI have received the sixth annual report of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee and a copy has been placed in the Library of the House.
The report makes a number of detailed recommendations on three principal subjects; the introduction of buses 695W that are more easily accessible to disabled people, the need for further improvements in the pedestrian environment to remove obstacles to mobility and the need for more effective education and training on mobility issues as part of vocational and other qualifications within the transport industries.
The committee's recommendations are being studied in detail and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has already been in touch with the committee about them.
