HL Deb 08 December 1992 vol 541 c6WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements are made for testing imported French wine for impurities.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

Local authorities carry out a routine testing programme for food and drink, including wine. Were testing of particular wines to be required, for example in the light of information about a possible risk to public health, this would be undertaken through co-operation between the Ministry, the wine standards board of the vintners company and local authorities.
