To ask the Lord President of the Council how many(a) oral and (b) written questions were asked in the last Session of Parliament; and what was the estimated total cost to Her Majesty's Government of answering them.

The number of questions appearing on the Order Paper in Session 1991–92 for oral answer was 2,383 and for written answer was 16,050. The estimated cost to Departments of preparing answers was £481,366 for oral questions and £1,396,350 for written questions.
