§ Mr. Maclean[holding answer 3 December 1992]: In the recent Montreal protocol negotiations the United States of America proposed that the production and supply of methyl bromide be phased out by the year 2000. Methyl bromide is a wide spectrum biocide used in soil fumigation and in vital quarantine applications.
