HC Deb 08 December 1992 vol 215 cc585-6W
Mr. Hutton

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether there is an agreed amount of notice given to the state that is to be inspected when the International Atomic Energy Agency undertakes special inspections; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

There is no fixed period of notice for special inspections in the relevant safeguards agreements; these provide for prior consultation between the state and the IAEA in circumstances which may lead to a special inspection. In case action by the state is essential and urgent the IAEA board of governors may call upon the state to take the required action without delay.
