HC Deb 07 December 1992 vol 215 c509W
Mr. Waterson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to recommend the discontinuance of section 4 grants in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I have no such plans. The arrangements for Government support for the tourism industry in Scotland, including the Scottish tourist board's section 4 scheme of assistance, are however, kept under constant review. I am at present seeking views on their effectiveness.

Mr. Waterson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total expenditure on section 4 grants for tourism-related projects in Scotland in the last full year for which figures are available.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Scottish tourist board awarded section 4 grant assistance amounting to £3,616,000 during 1991–92.
