HL Deb 07 December 1992 vol 541 c2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the search for a solution to the problems of Israel's and Iran's nuclear weapons programmes should be put off until an Israeli/Arab settlement has been achieved.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Combating the dangers of nuclear proliferation is a task of the highest priority for this Government. We believe it should be tackled in whatever ways seem likely to be most effective. Regional political settlements may help provide an answer to such dangers and we shall continue strongly to support the Middle East peace process. But we do not believe this should exclude the search for other possible solutions to the proliferation problem.
