Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Leyton (Mr. Cohen) of 19 November,Official Report, column 322, if he will give details of the numbers of private detective agencies currently under contract to his Department.

The information requested is not held centrally, and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish his current guidelines for approved use of private detectives by his Department.

Enquiry agents have been used from time to time in cases of damage to trunk road furniture; personal injuries and medical negligence claims. There are no specific guidelines for their use other than value-for-money considerations in individual cases.
