HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c95W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has regarding advice given to authorities responsible to Windsor castle on fire safety precautions.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The royal household is responsible for providing suitable fire safety precautions for Windsor castle. In doing so they may seek advice from whatever sources they consider to be most appropriate.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from Berkshire fire brigade on the advice offered to the authorities at Windsor castle in respect of fire safety precautions, specifying the nature of the recommendations and the dates upon which they were made.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Responsibility for fire safety at Windsor castle and at all occupied royal residences has been vested in the royal household since 1 April 1991. The royal household may seek advice from any source. Her Majesty's chief inspector of fire services has asked for a full report on the fire from the chief officer of the Royal Berkshire fire and rescue service, which will include details of any fire safety advice provided by his brigade.
