HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c88W
Mr. Sproat

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress he has made in achieving the target of a reduction of 1.5 per cent. in his Department's running costs for the present financial year, in the first half of this financial year; and what specifically has been saved, by what means and in what areas of his responsibility.

Mr. Goodlad

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office diplomatic and aid (Overseas Development Administration) Wings are expected to achieve efficiency savings of 2.3 per cent. and 2.74 per cent. respectively on running costs for 1992–93, thus exceeding the minimum target of 1.5 per cent.

The target areas for savings include relocation, staff reductions, overseas security, overseas estate, energy efficiency, training, travel, communications and information systems.
